A founder's journey back from the edge. No filters. No script. Just the truth about money, habits, and starting over.
The restart begins in:
Here we go again.
I was tracking every penny. Building the tool that would help others do the same. Things were working. The numbers made sense. I felt in control.
Then we moved house. The sellers said the fridge was included. When we arrived, they'd changed their minds. Suddenly I needed $1,500 I hadn't planned for.
That was the trigger. The fridge I needed. The pizza oven I didn't. The bits and pieces for the new place. I was buzzing off the beautiful new space, and I had money to spend.
Eight thousand dollars. Gone in a week. And I don't know where most of it went.
That's why I'm here. Starting again. Publicly. With you watching.
Years ago, I was given a phrase: “Restart Saturday at 9.”
For years, it terrified me. I thought it meant something final. An ending. I carried it like a weight I couldn't put down.
Then one Saturday morning at 9am, I left. A bedsit in the UK. Everything I owned in a bag. Walking toward something I couldn't see yet.
The phrase transformed. From fear to freedom. From ending to beginning.
Now it's a ritual. Every Saturday at 9am, I reset. I look at what went wrong. I find the trigger. I log the first transaction. I start again.
Every Saturday at 9am (NZ time), I reset.
I look at what went wrong.
I find the trigger.
I log the first transaction.
I start again.
No shame. Just awareness.

What "Restart Saturday at 9" means
I built this app and stopped using it
The fridge was $1500. The rest was a $6500 spree.
Why we run when things start working
February 1st. The first transaction. Live.
Because accountability works.
Because if I can fall off while building the app, anyone can fall off.
And because the getting back up is the whole point.
This is what Solvent is for. Not perfect tracking. Not shame when you miss. Just: awareness, choice, restart.
