This module does not argue that the gold standard was good or bad, and it will not tell you what to hold. It establishes four things that are matters of record — what the backing actually was, who was allowed to convert, when it stopped, and what was happening in New Zealand while it did.
Almost everybody arrives with a version of this story. Most of the versions are about the wrong country.
